Beauty Aspects: DIY 100% Natural Hair Gel Linseed/ Flaxseed Style

I write a monthly DIY for myblackhair.nl, a cool site for tips and tricks on hair and fashion.
Totally inspired I decided to do this Hair DIY.

Flaxseed also known as Linseed has a lot of benefits for your hair. You can use the oil or make a Gel to maintain your natural hair.
The gel is for all hair types especially for those of us who want to refine our natural texture. It enhances the curl pattern and leaves the hair moisturized and shiny.
Sounds great huh.
Well let's give it a try shall we...

You will need:
Linseed/ Flaxseed dark brown or light golden (de Tuinen)
air tight container for your homemade Hair Gel (Action)
some stockings (Hema)
a large bowl
wooden spoon
option: Your favorite natural oil or fragrance (de Tuinen/ Hair Shop)

Pour 1/4 of a cup Linseed and 2 cups of water in your pan.
Or if you like your Gel a bit thicker you can use 1/2 cup of Linseed.

Heat it up for a couple of minutes.

Stir your pot with preferably a wooden spoon until white foam appears. Now you can turn off the heat.

The substance is clear and like glue.

Cut off the feet of the stocking and stretch it over your bowl to filter your gel.

Uhuh I like were this is going...

Ok so don't do this! Ha I was to greedy for the shot and I burned my fingers to make it.
Use a kitchen item or wait till it's a little bit cooled off. But not to long because the Gel thickens as it cools down.
Still like the lighting and steam though :)

Now you can add your essential oils or fragrance

And Voila Your Homemade 100% Natural Gel is all done.
Because it's a natural product, you will need to keep it in the fridge and it could last up to 2 weeks.

Left picture: Here you have the difference between 1/2 and 1/4 cup of Flaxseed.
Left one is way thicker.
If you would like it to be thinner, add some warm water while the Gel is still hot and stir like a maniac.

On the right:  Don't throw away your used seeds! You can easily use them a couple of times and store them in your fridge.

Now The Results

Because I have my extensions I use the gel only for edge control. And its amazinggggg. When it's dried up, it's still a bit hard with a lovely shine. Just the way I like it.
I'm natural now once A-Gain so I really need those edges to be smooth!
I think I'm a type 4b on the Hair chart.
In the first pic I have nothing in my hair, just washed it. In the second I applied the Gel and put on a silk scarf until it all dried up.

In my family we have a lot of different hair types so I asked them to help me out a bit.
Just so you could get the idea!

First up my big sis Vanessa. She's fully natural for exactly a year now. Her Big Chop was in January.
 So no chemicals for her.
Her hair is Kinky Curly. I think she has type 4a/3c hair.

In the next post you can check out the results of my three nieces; The Qtie Team.
