Not for the streets: Dutch Magazine Jackie

Oh sweet sweet Netherlands, the land of the "persvrijheid" meaning....freedom of speech...
Where you can just say or write content which would seem insulting by any other person but still newsworthy enough to publish.
First it was the Dutch politician Wilders, with his theory about burning the Koran and all muslims are pigs..
Now it's Dutch magazine Jackie with an article suggesting the style NiggaBitch .. uhm owk didn't know such style existed let alone call it Niggabitch .. but let's get in to it..
The NiggaBitch
They have street cred, a ghetto ass and a golden voice. The "good girl gone bad" Rihanna is the ultimate "niggabitch" and loves to show it off. And that means what goes on can come off. If this means being half naked on a podium then so be it.  But the Dutch winters are not the Jamaican, so choose a dress in which  your daughter can withstand minus 10. Not the big sunglasses and porno heels, but tiger print, pink shizzle and all things shiny. Now let's hope she won't beat anyone up in daycare.

Moving In

Good news Loves, I'm planning more and longer stays in the Netherlands. And that means one thing interieur changes for our appartment in Almere near Amsterdam. I'm moving in!
Hubby is staying in Munich due to his work and I'll be working from Amsterdam creating stuff for my first mini collection. I'll be traveling a lot between the two cities so will keep you posted on the Blog.
But first things first selecting what to keep and what to throw away. I'm a bit of a collector of second hand junk as my mother would say but I prefer to call them my vintage treasures..

Here are a few items I found last month on the flee market..

Novelty: Booties

Something new: Bronx Wedges

Heritage: Madame Grès

Every now and then I do this post just to remind myself and hopefully you of all the heritage  the great legends of the past left for us. Posts I did before where from Jean Patou, Maggy Rouf and Elsa Schiaparelli who left us the color "Shocking" neon pink.

Trends are going in to an extreme, there are no limits and what was first a big faux pas is now applaused for the fact you dare to be different. Every year the same items; the bold colors, romantic laces, ethnic prints, metallic shades and modern cuts but in a different trend. Sometimes I wonder how the days were when fashion was Couture and every customer had their own bustier and you could talk one on one to the designer. Of course this was only for the rich and famous like 0,000001% of the world but ok.... Cristobal Balenciaga stopped with his Couture just before his creations became commercial. Maybe he felt that times were changing... The Gucci group who took over the house in 2001 beg to differ and now the "brand" is mostly known for the bags... Balenciaga would turn in his grave I think.  Mega Stores are an addiction nowadays like H&M and Zara and I feel the need for more exclusiveness and that's why I create.. I hope some day I can make affordable Exclusive items.

So back to Madame Grès....The Sculptor of Couture..

Short Bio

Real name: Germaine Émilie Krebs (1903–1993)
Design House: Grès 1941
Clientele: Duchess of Windsor, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Jacqueline Kennedy, and Dolores del Río
Quotes: “I wanted to be a sculptor. For me, it’s the same thing to work the fabric or the stone”
“I look at the fabric and I touch it. Then I ask myself: ‘What kind of a dress will this turn out to be?’ It’s not a trip, or an inspiration that defines the dress, it’s the fabric.’ “
Famous for: Her technique of draping a 300 cm jersey fabric in a piece of 7 cm wide in the most sophisticated way! For real.
Favourite colour scheme: Black, Ivory, Ecru and Grey

Outfitpost: Knitted sweater

Got this vintage Practica SLR camera from the flee market. It feels a bit odd to work with filmrolls again but it will help me learn the basics of photography... I think I love the bordeaux colored bag even more that came with it... Oh and I´m wearing my  “knitted” sweater from yesterday check out the post below, pants and wedges form the Zara. X

Item de SOYL: Knitted

Owk what do you do when you can´t knit but still want to make your own sweater, my solution is to try to braid and crochet your way out of it. Those who read my blog often know that I started with sewing 6 months ago after I almost tripped over the stacks of designs I have on paper... so bear with me..
I  first outlined and framed the design I wanted with long braids of wool. Then filled the open parts by hand with crochet, no needles were use in the process....So I´m owk with the outcome but I need to experiment some more.. I feel a new  DIY and more “knitted” items coming up ... Keep you posted X

Backstage L´Oréal Trophy awards Carré 2011

8 Weeks of preparations, fittings and sewing has come to an end.. I feel surprisingly full of energy and I would do it again in a heart beat.. The whole entourage.. the excitement of being backstage.. anxiously trying to stick some tape on a bustier just seconds before the run.. a model holding her shoe in her hand before she needs to walk because we all know they hurt like hell. These moments are all worth it when you see the models walk over the runway in your creations.. One by one flawless  and within 15 minutes it´s over. Let me show you backstage at the L´Oréal Colour Trophy Awards in Carré Amsterdam.

The Kinki show was divided in two parts, the first part called Push The Button was styled by Iris van Wijhe with dresses of Darryl van Wouw.. Full of Buttons, colours and black contrasting hoops..
Second part is the Theatrical and styled by Sanne en Justine of Collected Styling with  the dresses designed by me SOYL...
Make-up of my part Theatrical was by the hand of  Make-up artist Paul Benjamin
And special thanks to the Hair models Deborah, Samantha, Sara, Linda, Naomi and Merel... who rocked my dresses on the runway and had the guts to colour, cut and shave their hair for the show.
